NARRAGANSETT – Narragansett Town Beach had a profitable summer, officials said this week, while also defending themselves against charges of exclusivity.

"When people say or insinuate that Narragansett Town Beach is unfriendly or unwelcoming to non-town residents, that is absolutely untruthful," recreation Director Michelle Kershaw said at a public work session on Monday where she presented the beach's annual "year in review" to the Town Council.

While the beach is town-owned, roughly 40% of visitors are non-residents, she pointed out.

"We really are welcoming," agreed Dennis Lynch, a member of the town's Recreation Advisory Board.
