Save the Bay Fields Point Cleanup 10/20

  • Fields Point 100 Save the Bay Drive Providence, RI, 02905 United States (map)

WHAT: Join the International Coastal Cleanup at Fields Point in Providence with Save The Bay! Shoreline trash is ugly and dangerous to wildlife, and shoreline cleanups are a great way for volunteers to make a difference. We will divide into small teams to pick up trash and record what we find. The data will be included in the Ocean Conservancy's annual report on marine debris.

WHERE: 100 Save The Bay Drive, Providence, RI. The entrance to Save The Bay is through the Johnson & Wales Harborside Campus, via Harborside Blvd. If you are coming from the highway or points north, your GPS/Google Maps may tell you to enter via Ernest St & Shipyard St, but you can't get in that way without a key card. Ignore any directions to turn from Allens Ave onto Ernest, and continue along until you get to Harborside Blvd. See map for exact location. Let the guard at the kiosk know you are going to Save The Bay.

PREPARE FOR THE CLEANUP:

  • The data is what makes ICC special! Download the Clean Swell App so you can be ready to record what your group picks up. Paper data cards will be provided as well.

  • REQUIRED: Review our ICC QUICK TIPS document for details on data collection, safety tips, and COVID-19 pre-screening.

  • Optional: You may want to bring your own work gloves, trash grabber, or bucket for collecting trash.

  • We will provide disposable gloves, trash bags, and hand sanitizer.

NOTE: We have redesigned our cleanup program in order to do our work as safely as possible in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. Please read!

  • Pre-registration required - Each volunteer must sign up individually, with the exception of children accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Simply hit respond to this need and the system will walk you through creating an account and/or completing an e-waiver if you haven't already. Contact July Lewis at jlewis@savebay.org if you have questions; she will be happy to help!

  • Age requirements: Cleanups are recommended for ages 8+. Ages 16+ may participate independently; Ages 8-15 may participate with a parent or guardian. Parents with children will be asked to sign a family waiver at the event.

  • Safety instructions must be reviewed in advance. We will not gather together for a welcome and safety speech as in the past. You will simply check in, pick up any needed supplies, and start cleaning! Therefore it is REQUIRED that all volunteers review the detailed safety instructions included in ICC QUICK TIPS, which includes new guidance and COVID-19 screening. We will send this out again to registered volunteers before the cleanup.

Need documentation of service hours? We provide confirmation letters upon request! Just ask your cleanup leader at the end of the event.

Any questions or difficulty registering? Contact July Lewis at jlewis@savebay.org. We want you on our team!
