By Jonana Bouras NBC 10 News — WICKFORD, RI — “Open” signs hung in storefront windows up and down Brown Street in Wickford Village as businesses hoped to cash in on the last-minute holiday rush.

But things weren’t looking as hopeful Friday morning when police announced that the village was closed as water flooded several parking lots and streamed over the road instead of under the bridge.

“We got here and the water in the parking lot for the town was approximately 2 feet deep,” said business owner Peter Chevalier.

But even as the tide rolled out, workers vacuumed sopping wet carpets at Harbor View Artisans.

“Pretty wet. Luckily, we lifted all of the merchandise off the floor last night before we closed it. So, It’s just the fixtures and the carpet are very soggy,” co-founder Meringa Aiello said.
